So today I will share with you this Christmas Santa Dog hat pattern. Please read and work slowly because this pattern is quite complicated, now let’s get started. SKILL LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE
What you will need:
RED HEART® Soft®: 1 ball each White 4600 A and Really Red 9925 B
RED HEART® Boutique FurTM: 1 ball Polar 9100 C
Susan Bates® Knitting Needles:
5mm [US 8] and 12.75mm [US 17]
3 stitch markers, yarn needle, pompom maker.
GAUGE: 17 sts = 4” [10 cm]; 23 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st with smaller needles. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.
RED HEART® Soft®, Art. E728 available in solid color 5 oz (141 g), 256 yd (234 m), print 4 oz (113 g), 204 yd (187 m), and heather 4oz (113 g), 212 yd (194 m) balls
RED HEART® Boutique FurTM, Art. E831 available in 3.5 oz (100 g) 11 yd (10 m) balls

Directions are for size X-Small. Changes for sizes Small, Medium and Large are in parentheses. Dog in photo is wearing size Small.
Hat fits dog neck size 11 (131⁄2, 161⁄2, 191⁄2,)” [28 (34, 42, 50) cm].
SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS
Kfb = Knit into the front and then the back of the same st
Ssk = (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 stitches, one at a time as if to knit, to right needle, insert point of left needle through front of sts, knit these sts together through back loop.
NOTE
Project is knitted flat then seamed.
HAT
Neck
With smaller needles and A, cast on 48 (60, 72, 84) sts.
Row 1: K2, P2.
Continue in K2, P2 ribbing until piece measures 3 (4, 5, 6)” [8 (10, 13, 15) cm] from cast on.
Next row: Continuing in K2, P2 pattern, work first 12 (16, 18, 22) sts, bind off 24 (28, 36, 40) sts, work last 12 (16, 18, 22) sts.
Next row: Continuing in K2, P2 pattern, work first 12 (16, 18, 22) sts, cast on 24 (28, 36, 40) sts, work last 12 (16, 18, 22) sts.
Continue in K2, P2 pattern for 1 (11⁄2, 2, 21⁄2)” [3 (4, 5, 6) cm].
Last row: Purl across.
Crown of Hat
Change to B.
Row 1: K8 (10, 12, 14) sts, place st marker, K16 (20, 24, 28) sts, place st marker, K16 (20, 24, 28) sts, place st marker, K last 8 (10, 12, 14) sts.
Row 2: Purl across.
Row 3: Knit across.
Row 4: Purl across.
Row 5: Knit across.
Row 6: Purl across.
Row 7: *Knit to 2 sts before marker, K2tog, slip marker, SSK; repeat from * to end of row–42 (54, 66, 78) sts.
Repeat Rows 4-7 until 6 sts are left on needle. Bind off.
BEARD
With larger needles and C, cast on 3 sts.
Row 1: Kfb, knit to last st, kfb—5 sts.
Row 2: Knit.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until there are 7 (9, 11, 13) sts on needle. Bind off.
FINISHING
With A, whipstitch beard to neck just below the opening left from the bound-off sts. Whipstitch the side edges of the neck together, forming a tube.
With B, whipstitch the side edges of the crown together to form the hat.
With A and pompom maker, make a pompom. Attach to top of hat.
With yarn needle, weave in all loose ends.
