Designing the face

Eye indentations

1.With a darning needle, bring the remaining yarn from the bottom of the head through to the left side of the head, positioning it at a stitch below Round 16.

2.Make one horizontal stitch and bring the thread back down to the bottom of the head. Gently tug on the yarn to create a slight indentation.

3.Now repeat the above on the right side of the head – there should be 8 stitches in between the indentations. Do not cut off excess yarn yet. You may use your thumbs to gently add pressure to deepen the indentations.

Nose

1. With the same needle and yarn, bring the yarn back up to the center of the head below Round 16 between the eye indentations.

2. Pull it taut and loop the yarn 4 times around the needle. While holding the loops firmly, pull the needle through. What you’ll get is a small French knot.

3. Bring the knotted yarn into the stitch next to it and gently pull it through to the bottom of the head. Trim excess yarn.
** You may also use a new strand of yarn to create the eye indentations and the nose.

Eyes & Brows

1. The closed eyelids are sewn on using black crochet thread and darning needle. Make a loose horizontal stitch, about 4 sts long, for each eyelid, starting from the eye indentations.

2.To give the eyelids a curvier look, you need to make sure the stitch is a little loose, and not pulled tight. Dab on a bit of glue to secure the shape once you’re happy with it.

3. For the eyelashes, use black sewing thread and a sewing needle to make 3 spaced-out vertical stitches along the eyelids.

4. The eyebrows are made with jute twine – make one horizontal backstitch (3 stitches long) from below Round 13 above each eye.

Legs/Boots

With white, make 2, starting from the boot up:

Round 1: Sc 6 in magic ring {6).

Round 2: Inc around {12}.

Round 3: [Inc, sc 1] around {18}.

Rounds 4-8 (5 rounds altogether): Sc around {18}.

Change to grey yarn.

Round 9: Sc around in back loop only {18}.

Round 10: Sc around {18}.

Fasten off and leave a long end for sewing.

Stuff firmly.

**Optional design: With mint yarn and a darning needle, sew on a line of backstitches all around the arm below Round 8.

Boot toes

With white yarn, make 2:

Round 1: Sc 6 in magic ring {6}.

Round 2: Inc around {12}.

Round 3: Sc around {12}.

Fasten off and leave a long end for sewing.

Flatten piece slightly.

Helmet

**Before you begin, you need to make sure that you’ve completed sewing on the eyes, nose, eyebrows and cheeks onto the head piece.

** You will also need the hair piece – attach this onto the top-centre of the head, with the ends of the bangs ending at Round 12 (with backstitches).

With grey yarn, repeat instructions for Round 1-17 of the head.

Continue with the below:

Rounds 18-20 (3 rounds altogether): Sc around {54}.

Stuff the head piece you made earlier into this helmet piece.

Round 21: [Inv dec, sc 7] around {48}.

Rounds 8-17 (10 rounds altogether): Sc around {42}.
