Ornamental Fish crochet pattern

Abbreviations

MR – magic ring

Rnd (R) – round

st/sts – stitch/stitches

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

inc – increase (2 sc in one stitch)

dec – decrease (2 sc together)

hdc – half double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

BLO – back loop only

Body

(The sl st part is the bottom part of the fish!)

R1: sc 6 in a MR – sl st (6)

R2: ch, (sc, inc, sc)*2 – sl st (8)

R3: ch, (sc3-inc)*2 – sl st (10)

R4: ch, 4sc, 2inc, 4sc – sl st (12)

R5: ch, inc, 10sc, inc – sl st (14)

R6-10: ch, sc – sl st (14)

R11: ch, (5sc, dec)*2 – sl st (12)

R12: ch, sc – sl st (12)

R13: ch, (2sc, dec, 2sc)*2 – sl st (10)

R14: ch, sc – sl st (10)

R15: ch, (3sc, dec)*2 – sl st (8)

R16: ch, sc – sl st (8)-> change the tail color

R17: ch, 8inc – sl st (16)

->Stuff body with fiberfill and continue to tail instruction.

Tail

R1: 10ch (starting in 2nd chain from hook), blo 9sc -sl st (at the first stitch of R17 and the opposite stitch)

R2: ch, turn (skip the sl st), blo sc8

R3: ch2, (starting in 2nd chain from hook), blo sc9 – sl st (at the next stitch and the opposite stitch)

*Round 4 to 17, repeat steps 2 and 3

Top fin

Work top fin along the top of body in a straight line towards head.

Insert hook between rounds 14&15 of body.

R1: 10ch, 9sc – sl st

Start the second chain!

R2: ch, blo 8sc, ch, turn, blo 8sc – sl st

R3: ch, blo 7sc, ch, turn, blo 7sc – sl st

R4: ch, blo 6sc, ch, turn, blo 6sc – sl st

R5: ch1 – blo sc5 – ch1 – turn – blo sc5 – sl st

Side fin

*Make side fin between rounds 5&6 of body.

R1: ch2, hdc3 (same stitch) – sl st(same stitch)

Bottom fin

Work the bottom fin along the bottom of body in a straight line towards tail.

Insert hook between rounds 7&8 of body.

R1: 8ch, 7sc – sl st

Start the second chain!

R2: ch, blo 6sc, 2ch, turn, blo 7sc – sl st

R3: ch, blo 7sc, 2ch, turn, blo 8sc – sl st

R4: ch, blo 7sc, 2ch, turn, blo 8sc – sl st

R5: ch, blo 8sc, 2ch, turn, blo 9sc – sl st

R6: ch, blo 8sc, 2ch, turn, blo 9sc – sl st

R7: ch, blo 9sc, 2ch, turn, blo 10sc – sl st
