American Flag crochet pattern

Materials

Cotton yarn – size 8/4, in the following colors:

– Red

– White

– Blue

Stitch markers

Scissors

Hook number 2.5

Abbreviations

sc – single crochet in US (double crochet in UK)

slst – slip stitch

ch – chain

American flag

Start with red color yarn.

1. ch 41, turn (41)

2. starting from the 2nd chain from the hook, 40sc (40)

Change to white color yarn.

3-4. ch1, turn, 40sc (40)

Change to red color yarn.

5-6. ch1, turn, 40 sc (40)

Change to white color yarn.

7-8. ch1, turn, 40 sc (40)

Change to red color yarn.

9-10. ch1, turn, 40 sc (40)

Change to white color yarn.

11-12. ch1, turn, 40 sc (40)

Change to blue color yarn.

13. ch1, turn, 16sc, change to red – 24sc (40)

14. ch1, turn, 24sc in red, change to blue – 16 sc (40)

15. ch1, turn, 16sc in blue, change to white – 24 sc (40)

16. ch1, turn, 24 sc in white, change to blue – 16sc (40)

17. ch1, turn, 16sc in blue, change to red – 24 sc (40)

18. ch1, turn, 24sc in red, change to blue – 16 sc (40)

19. ch1, turn, 16sc in blue, change to white – 24 sc (40)

20. ch1, turn, 24 sc in white, change to blue – 16sc (40)

21. ch1, turn, 16sc in blue, change to red – 24 sc (40)

22. ch1, turn, 24sc in red, change to blue – 16 sc (40)

23. ch1, turn, 16sc in blue, change to white – 24 sc (40)

24. ch1, turn, 24 sc in white, change to blue – 16sc (40)

25. ch1, turn, 16sc in blue, change to red – 24 sc (40)

26. ch1, turn, 24sc in red, change to blue – 16 sc (40)

Fasten off, weave in the ends.

Using white color string, embroider stars, or a representaion of the stars.

When changing between the yarn colors, make sure to leave a long loop between the rows. Cut the yarn loops in half. This will help you weave in the yarn into the rows much easier.
